This photo was taken during my time last summer working as a tour guide on the Athabasca glacier in Jasper National Park. Our staff camp was located about 100m to the right of where this photo was taken. Also worth noting is the altitude– 2000m (7000ft) above sea level.
The peak in the photo with the sun setting on it is called Nigel’s Peak (3200m). Also of note is the smoke rising from the woods below the peak; this is a national park campsite. The road running through the valley is the Icefields Parkway. I used to claim the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton as the finest stretch of road in Canada, but after seeing the Icefields Parkway, that’s a hard case to make…
