About Us
PeacockPoverty is a collection of individuals with an experience of poverty who join together to share knowledge, strength, talent and wisdom with each other and our friends.
The collection is autonomous, independent of agency affiliation, by and for poor people and friends.
We believe that each voice has a right to be heard regardless of economic or social status and/or class, education, literacy, privilege or favour. We challenge existing barriers.
We believe that poor people historically have contributed greatly to the wealth of the land without having received much of it in return. We believe in our inherent worth to dignity, respect and all rights basic and human, our historically documented hard work and ethic over generations, and we understand the systemic oppression that serves to maintain our poverty.
We believe in each other and community. We stand in solidarity with those impoverished to all the varying and horrifying degrees here in Canada and all over our Earth.
We believe in the helping hand at the end of our arm and extend it to those still suffering alone without a voice.
We believe we can change the minds and hearts of others if we bring to them our community, our talent, our skill, our potential, and our willingness; our ideas, intellects, practicality and experiential knowledge.
We believe that in doing so we may even change ourselves.
By us, For us and all our Friends: Fighting Stigma. Inspiring Hope.
